Basketball Rules

Game Format

  • Teams: 3 players on the court, up to 3 subs (max 6 players per roster).

  • Court: Half-court, one basket.

  • Ball Size: Size 7 (29.5”).

  • Players are required to wear a number on shirt / jersey

Scoring

  • Inside the arc: 2 points

  • Beyond the arc: 3 points

  • Free throws: 1 point

  • Free throw attempts must be shot within 7 seconds of shooter receiving the ball from referee

Game Length

  • 12-minute running clock

  • Race to 21 points, win by 2

  • If time expires, team in the lead wins.

  • No halftime

  • One team timeout in final minute, no timeouts outside of final minute

  • 1 minute rule - Clock does not stop at 1 minute mark. Clock will run unless teams use their timeout or when free throws are attempted. Fouls do not stop the clock in pools or bracket play.

    • Championship Game Only - The clock will stop for each foul under the 1 minute mark.

Possession Rules

  • Shoot-off determines first possession (each team picks a shooter; best of 1 from the free throw line).

  • Check the ball at the top of the key after dead balls. This can also be done by having the referee pass it into the offensive player at top of the key. Defensive attempts to steal during this are not allowed and the offending team will be assessed a team foul for each infraction along with possibility of a technical foul per referee discretion.

  • Clear beyond the arc after defensive rebounds, steals, and air balls before a shot attempt.

  • Alternating possession after jump balls.

  • Backboard Out of Bounds -The ball is considered out of bounds if it touches the supports or the back of the backboard, or if it passes directly over the top of the backboard. Any ball that passes behind the backboard in any direction is out of bounds, making it a violation to score or pass over the structure.

Shot Clock

  • 15 seconds per possession

  • Reset to 8 seconds after a defensive foul, kicked ball, or offensive rebound.

Fouls

  • 6 team fouls = bonus (opponent shoots free throws).

  • No personal foul limit, but excessive fouls = disqualification.

  • Technical foul: 2 free throws + possession.

Substitutions

  • Only during dead balls.

Overtime

  • If tied after regulation:

    • First team to score 2 points wins.

    • Shoot-off determines first possession (each team picks a shooter; best of 1 from beyond the arc).

Player Conduct

  • Zero Tolerance for disrespect or overly physical behavior towards players or referees.

    • First Infraction: Technical Foul with 2 free throw attempts awarded to other team and possession

    • Second Infraction: Same penalty as first infraction and player is ejected from current game

    • Third Infraction: Same penalty as previous infarction and player is ejected from the event

    • Should a player have multiple infractions over multiple games they can be ejected from event
